TBEX hits Killarney during the first week in October 2017 and as excitement mounts many locals may be wondering what precisely TBEX is? Here’s what Fáilte Ireland says:

Kerry recently won the bid to host the prestigious and influential social media conference TBEX Europe 2017. This event will attract more than 650 delegates from all over the world; with travel bloggers, writers, new media content creators, and social media- savvy travel industry professionals all descending on Kerry. These top social influencers have an online output which reaches an audience of over 300m.
The conference will take place from 3rd- 5th October, 2017 at Killarney Convention Centre. The delegates will be participating in familiarisation trips around the County and will be staying in Killarney.

At Murphy’s Bar we have already been reaching out to these visitors on social media and are looking forward to meeting them all in person.

Have a look at our guest dancer here, Anne-Marie Nelligan, dancing the brush dance at Murphy’s. This is a traditional dance that always gets the toes tapping and the hands clapping.    

In an interview live on Facbook Seán Murphy extended a warm welcome to all the TBEX speakers and delegates.  

In the interview Seán describes ‘the craic’ and you can get a sample of that by watching the first video above. He also speaks about the food menu at Murphy’s Bar and how his mother pioneered that idea in the late 1960s and early 70’s. Seán suggests the TBEX visitors to try our Irish Stew which uses local Ring of Kerry Lamb, or our Mussels from Cromane served with brown bread or else our Beef and Guinness casserole.

Lord Kenmare’s Restaurant is well-known and well loved in Killarney and further afield for over two decades and now they are adding some extra sparkle to the festive season. They have just announced two very special evenings of food and entertainment that are sure to go down a treat. These ‘Festive Soirées’ will take place on Wednesday 29th November and Wednesday 6th December so save the dates!

When asked about the Festive Soirées Owner Seán Murphy said:

People love special occasions in the run up to Christmas. It gives them an opportunity to dress up and go out with friends and family, something they might not get to do all year. This year we thought we’d add an extra dimension to our normal food offering and provide a wonderful evening that will also include entertainment.

A soirée is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as “An evening party or gathering, for conversation or music.”  That is exactly what will take place on these two Wednesday nights at Lord Kenmare’s. Prepare yourself for a wonderful evening of glitz and glamour.

The Soirées are open to couples and any particular groupings you can think of, such as families, colleagues, friends, clubs and organisations, and so on.

Prosecco on Arrival

Guests will be warmly welcomed with a glass of prosecco and you’ll have the opportunity to chat and catch up while you ease into the comfortable surroundings and anticipate the evening ahead.

Festive Menu

As you would expect the menu will have the usual Lord Kenmare’s flair and of course you can expect a seasonal twist. The sumptuous three courses will no doubt delight the senses.

The head chef and kitchen team have been busy crafting the perfect menu for your special night out. It includes vegetarian options for both the starters and the main course. The menu has plenty of choice to suit everyone and includes sirloin steak, venison and seafood. For dessert Traditional Christmas Pudding will be one of your choices along with some other very tantalising choices. You can view the entire menu here.

Entertainment

Easy listening will be provided by The Loungeman a very popular act from Cork. The Loungeman sings Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Crosby, Bennett, Michael Bublé and much more. Light, smooth, easy and refreshing are four words to describe The Loungeman’s repertoire. From ‘Fly me to the Moon’ to ‘Mambo Italiano’ the Cork singer performs a virtually unending list of tracks while always staying true to the timeless originals. The Loungeman will also sing from his extensive Christmas repertoire to get you in the mood. The music and singing will be there to enhance and not to overshadow.

Irish Lamb is renowned throughout the world as a wonderful choice and it is a favourite for many Chef’s to feature on their menus.Here at Lord Kenmare’s Restaurant we are delighted to share that all our lamb is supplied by the Ring of Kerry Quality Lamb, a group  over 30 sheep farmers who live around the Ring of Kerry

Their core focus is a common commitment to quality and a drive to maintain and grow a sustainable local enterprise. The business was created in 2009 when the group came together to market their lamb directly. This strategy was created by them working with Teagasc, Bord Bia, Kerry County Enterprise Board and South Kerry Development partnership.

This enabled them to then partner with local butchers and working closely with them they can guarantee their customers the highest product from an environmental and welfare perspective on the farm, to processing and packaging and transport further down the chain.

As featured previously in Country Living in the Irish Farmers Journal the group have enjoyed a visit from renowned Chef Nevin Maguire who shared “Ring of Kerry Quality Lamb is very innovative and most importantly, its Bord Bia assured, we know we’re getting Irish Lamb. I buy my lamb directly from them.” In addition Nevin also shared “the environment this lamb is farmed in is very natural, they feed off heather and clover and the meat has a lovely sweet taste”.(ref Irish Farmers Journal, Country Living).

Murphy’s Bar is at the heart of Killarney for over 60 years and that’s both figuratively and literally! Throughout the years we have played host to some of Killarney’s most memorable moments in sport, music, culture, festivals and celebrations and the summer of 2016 is not going to disappoint either with an amazing line-up of events.

The Ring of Kerry Cycle takes place on the 2nd of July and is now in its 33rd year. This year here in Killarney we are set to welcome over 11,000 leisure cyclists who to date have fundraised over €10.2 million for Kerry Charities. The spectacular 112 mile race on the Ring of Kerry is a great event for participants, supporters and their friends and family every year. We are here to welcome you and your weary legs throughout the weekend, drop in for a well-deserved drink, enjoy a meal in the bar or join us for dinner in Lord Kenmare’s.

On the 3rd of July Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney proudly plays host to the Munster Senior Football Final between the home county of Kerry and the premier county of Tipperary. So if you are “Up” or “Down for the match” allow us here in Murphy’s Bar to welcome you. As one of Killarney’s greatest sporting bars throughout the years we have enjoyed welcoming so many local and visiting counties who have chosen Murphy’s Bar as their meeting point or sharing with us the infamous post-match analysis. This busy weekend leads in to the 4th of July celebrations in Killarney. The third annual 4th of July celebrations will see main street Killarney turn into main street USA. Celebrations will begin from 7am with Morning Reveille with dawn chorus outside the Town Hall. Live Brass Bands will entertain throughout the town from 3pm and the Big Parade beginning at Killarney Outlet Centre Car Park commences at 8pm. The celebrations will close with a wonderful fireworks display that evening (subject to licence).
